Being A Single Mom

Being a single mom is hard work, when my first was born I was single and I struggled. A few months ago I became a single mom again, when you add 5 kids to the bunch then become a single mom it gives struggling a whole new meaning. Suddenly you are the sole provider for all of these little munchkins, it’s up to you to make sure they are fed, clothed, have a roof over their heads, and have electricity and heat to keep them warm at night. This is so stressful, I don’t think I have ever been so stressed in my entire life.

I have always been a saver, I always looking for ways to save money and who has the best deals for not only our essentials but also our bills as well, given my situation now I am even bigger on saving through deals. This means sitting down and looking through ads for our essentials and also researching the many sites and companies for hours trying to get the best deal. It takes away from the time I spend with my children and that is so very precious to me. MoneySupermarket is a great online site that actually does the comparing for you! MoneySupermarket is a UK based company, who really should check into expanding to the states for my sake, that compares good deals for energy, insurance, loans, and have tons of useful money saving tips. They even have a section for shopping, my favorite past time, so you can get a great deal on that new TV or camera you have your eye on.

How about you, what are things you do to save money?

I was a single mama for years so I know how valuable each dollar is. Even now, as a large family we work hard to stretch our dollars. We save money on food by using the crockpoy to make lots of soups and stews using less expensive cuts of meat, we only buy clothes on clearance, and I breasted and cloth diapered.

I’m also a single mommy also and it is hard work. I look for sales all the time. If i see something I like I will wait because I know in a couple of days later or weeks later it will be on sale. I look at all the grocery store specials and use any coupons on those specials.

I’m so bad. I try using coupons but they end up expiring before I use them. I need to start budgeting now that Kenzie will start daycare and guess who’s paying!! grrr…

I have been comparison shopping since the lord wore short pants..lol. Both my husband and I go threw the weekly flyers and clip coupons. We do not buy if we cannot use it up. No point in buying 5 heads of lettuce and 3 will go bad even if they are on sale at a great price. We bulk buy most dry goods with my sister and divide it up. As for clothing a lot of the time I shopped at consignment stores where I could purchase much better quality of clothing then I could ever afford to. I did set up a depot where the neighborhood could sell their gently used baby furniture and toys and it has worked out so well that I think our local Wal-Mart is a bit put off with us…hehehe.. Stay strong Jess and keep blogging and we, your followers will keep reading and encouraging you..xx

I know it is tough, and looking for deals takes SO much time. When the kids get even a little bit older, you will be surprised how much they like to sort and cut coupons or even price check online. My youngest is 12 and has loved doing this for the past couple of years. It helps kids understand where the money goes and appreciate things even more.

I did the single mom stint for 5 years and then for a while again about 13 years ago for a year or so. It is hard but teaches you how tough you really are. Just dont allow yourself to get isolated Jess….

    <3 you!

  6. I shop for things a lot online, and I ALWAYS look up items on multiple stores to find the best deal, and then look up coupon codes to see if I can get an even better discount. I use coupons as much as I can while grocery shopping, and we buy local fruits, veggies, milk, and cheese for better prices and better quality. :)
