*This is a guest review by my friend Anne Marie*
I was excited to get the chance to review the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Electric Breast Pump. I have three children, ages 3, 20 months, and 1 month. I just had my third little one at the end of December and plan on going back to work in a few months.
I have tried other pumps, but never any pumps or products by Tommee Tippee and was curious to see how they would compare.
The first thing I noticed about the pump is that it had a soft, silicone cup. Any pump I had tried in the past had a cup made of hard plastic and while pumping I felt like I was doing just that: pumping. The cup of the Closer to Nature pump was soft and flexible and it felt realistic to the feeling of nursing, making it easier to do so. I loved this feature!
The second thing I noticed was how small it was and easy to transport. Many pumps come in a large carrying case that is nice for pumping away from home, but large and noticeable and a pain to store while at home. I like that I can store the Closer to Nature pump in a closet while not using it, and it is small enough to stick in my diaper bag or purse. Since it runs on battery power, I could also use this pump while and about without needing to plug in!
The third thing I liked was the affordable price of the pump. With my oldest, I was told not to bother with less expensive pumps as they didn’t work as well. We didn’t have a few hundred dollars to spend, so we didn’t get one. The Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Pump is only $149.99 and the quality rivals that of more expensive pumps. It is a great value for the price!
I was also sent a pack of Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Feeding Bottles to review and was very happy with them. I like that they are BPA free, and was also surprised at how much they held (5 ounces) for their small size.
I also liked the larger shape of the nipples. While I had a hard time getting my other breastfed children to take a bottle and tried a few until we found a good fit, my son had no issues with transitioning from bottle to breast with the Closer to Nature nipples.
The Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Pump is great for moms who go from breast to bottle. The design was developed after research with moms and breastfeeding experts for ease and comfortability while expressing. The unique expressables system lets you express, protect, prepare, and feed in one easy system, with no need to transfer milk (and possibly spill or waste it!). I also liked the larger shape of the nipples and think they will make an easy transition for baby from bottle to breast.
The only things I would change is that I wish this pump came in a double. I found it a little amusing that it came with a pack of breast pads, because I would need them when only pumping on one side because I would leak on the other! I tried pumping on one side while nursing on the other and that seemed to help.
