5 Luxurious Family Vacation Ideas

Winter is just around the corner and when Christmas and the New Year are over, our thoughts turn to the long cold nights we will have to endure all of January and February. But winter doesn’t have to be long, break it up a bit, and give your family something to look forward to by getting together and deciding on a vacation to book for next year! Look to luxury destinations, as you can generally find some real bargains if you keep your eyes peeled. Here are a few destinations to watch for:
1. Marrakesh

Experience Arabian life by walking through spice scented souks, visiting ancient landmarks and marveling at mosques in this Moroccan city. Marrakesh boasts temperatures as high as 19 degrees in January, so you could end up going sooner than you think. Jemaa el-Fna is the bustling heart of the city, which transforms into a playground of acrobats, story tellers and performers at night. Be sure to try a cup of mint tea here!

2. Paphos

Looking for a beach holiday? Paphos is a Cypriot resort that is popular for its Blue Flag beach and fascinating history. What makes the beach so special is the Medieval Castle that overlooks it! Half of the beach is covered in beautiful sand and the other half is made with wooden decking. You might be too busy with watersports to notice though! Explorers can wander around the UNESCO Tomb of Kings site, home to 1000 year old tombs!

3. Cuba

Recent relaxation on restriction laws mean that Americans can now visit and appreciate the delights of Cuba. This Caribbean island treats guests to festivals and carnivals, dolphin spotting opportunities and – for the adults only – first rate vintage rum! Montemar Great National Park is a great place to take the kids, where guests can spot crocodiles. Of course, it’s mandatory to spend time on the white beaches, under the cooling palms.

4. Dominican Republic

Another Caribbean Island, the Dominican Republic is a top choice for families. Punta Cana at the east of the island is brilliant if dad likes golf and the family are looking for a lively resort like Bavaro. Head up north for a greener landscape, as the beaches of Playa Dorarda are surrounded by rainforest covered mountains. To get a feel for the local life, the south coast is home to quaint fishing villages as well as super luxurious accommodation. With temperatures topping 30°C throughout the whole year, why wouldn’t you go?

5. Mauritius

Off the east coast of Africa, is the small but perfectly formed island of Mauritius. It’s glorious beaches are picture perfect, uniting sapphire waters with white sands against a lush green inland. You can explore the sugar cane fields, jungle and waterfalls in between serious sunbathing or family fun sessions on the beach. The cultural mix of Creole and French means that the food is delicious, and will put a smile on even the fussiest eater’s face. It also offers indoor fun at the aquarium.

Making plans for your next vacation will see you through even the darkest and longest winter nights. Once Christmas is over, it’s something to look forward to together.
